Enjoy your hiking holidays. Picture-book villages, royal castles, monasteries and lakes. Scenic beauty, arts and cultural treasures.
Starting point is the Dachau artists’ colony. Today you won’t follow the footsteps of painters and writers. Your destination is the Amper river, west of Dachau, a bird paradise in the outskirts of the town. At the Amper bridge you take a left turn into the trail along the banks. Later on you continue on the right bank of the canal. In the entire area of the Amper you can admire an abundance of bird species.
You hike through the park area of Mitterndorf back to the S-Bahn train. But you won’t head back right now, since the old town of Dachau offers many sights. There is for example the Renaissance castle on the Stadtberg, which used to accommodate a fortress in the Middle Ages. Especially nice is a walk through the terraced garden of the castle, which is regularly groomed by skilful gardeners.
And if you have still time left before the departure of the next S-Bahn train, you should stroll through the picturesque old town of Dachau to admire the glorious faces of the houses there.
